Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce

1/4 cup whole milk

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon melted butter

1 medium apple, peeled, cored, and diced (preferably granny smith)

Extra granulated sugar and cinnamon for topping

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a doughnut pan with non-stick cooking spray or butter.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix the applesauce, milk, egg, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Stir until well blended.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the diced apple pieces.

Fill the Doughnut Pan: Use a piping bag or a spoon to fill each cavity of the doughnut pan about 2/3 full with the batter.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Prepare Topping: While the doughnuts are baking, mix together 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar with 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon in a small bowl.

Cool and Coat: Once baked, allow the doughnuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack. While they are still warm, sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture generously over the tops of each doughnut.

Serve: Enjoy your delicious apple cinnamon baked doughnuts warm or at room temperature with a cup of coffee or tea!
