Preheating your oven is a crucial step in ensuring that your Zesty Baked Turkey Meatballs cook evenly and develop a delicious golden-brown exterior. Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) at least 15-20 minutes before you plan to bake your meatballs. This will allow the oven to reach the desired temperature, which is essential for achieving the perfect texture. An adequately preheated oven helps create a nice crust on the outside while keeping the inside moist and tender.

Ingredients

For the Turkey Meatballs:

1 pound ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably whole wheat)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

2 tablespoons olive oil (for greasing baking sheet)

For the Lemon Yogurt Dip:

1 cup plain Greek yogurt

Zest of 1 lemon

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup (optional for sweetness)

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh dill or mint for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly grease it with olive oil.

Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, minced garlic, egg, oregano, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated, being careful not to overmix.

Form Meatballs: Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in size, and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Make sure to space them evenly apart.

Bake the Meatballs: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through and golden brown, reaching an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).

Prepare the Lemon Yogurt Dip: While the meatballs are baking, make the dip. In a medium-size bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, lemon zest, lemon juice, honey (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.

Serve and Enjoy: Once the meatballs are finished baking, let them cool slightly before serving them warm with the zesty lemon yogurt dip. Garnish the dip with fresh dill or mint if desired.
