Ingredients

4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting

1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F (43°C)

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted, plus extra for brushing

2 large eggs, at room temperature

1 tablespoon honey (optional, for a touch of sweetness)

Additional melted butter for brushing after baking

Instructions

Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm milk and granulated sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the milk and allow it to sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, eggs, and honey (if using) until well combined.

Form the Dough: Pour the yeast mixture and the egg mixture into the dry ingredients. Stir using a wooden spoon or a dough hook until the mixture starts to come together. If the dough is too sticky, add a bit more flour, a tablespoon at a time, until a soft dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic. If using a stand mixer with a dough hook, knead on medium speed for about 4-5 minutes.

First Rise: Lightly grease a bowl with oil or non-stick spray. Place the dough in the greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm area for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Shape the Rolls: After the dough has risen, punch it down to release excess air. Turn it out onto a floured surface. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces (for larger rolls) or 16 pieces (for smaller rolls). Roll each piece into a smooth ball.

Final Rise: Place the shaped rolls in a greased 9x13-inch baking pan or a round cake pan. Cover the rolls loosely with plastic wrap or a kitchen towel and allow them to rise for another 30-45 minutes, until puffy.

Preheat the Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Bake the Rolls: Brush the top of each roll with melted butter and bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Add More Butter: Remove the rolls from the oven and immediately brush them with additional melted butter for extra flavor and shine.

Serve: Let the rolls cool for a few minutes before serving warm. Enjoy them fresh, or store leftovers in an airtight container.
