Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs

1/4 cup hoisin sauce

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons honey

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon rice wine or shaoxing wine

2 teaspoons five-spice powder

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 tablespoon minced ginger

1 tablespoon sesame oil

1/2 teaspoon red food coloring (optional, for color)

Chopped green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Marinade: In a large bowl, combine hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, oyster sauce, rice wine, five-spice powder, minced garlic, minced ginger, sesame oil, and optional red food coloring. Mix well until uniform.

Marinate the Chicken: Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring each piece is fully coated. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight for maximum flavor.

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and place a wire rack on top for even cooking.

Bake the Chicken: Remove the chicken from the marinade (reserve the marinade for basting). Place the chicken thighs on the wire rack and bake in the preheated oven for approximately 25-30 minutes. Baste with reserved marinade every 10 minutes to build up a sticky glaze.

Finish Under the Broiler: After the chicken has baked, switch the oven setting to broil. Broil the chicken for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the exterior is caramelized and slightly charred. Keep a close eye to prevent burning.

Rest and Slice: Remove the chicken from the oven and let it rest for about 5 minutes. Slice the chicken into thin pieces and arrange them on a serving platter.

Garnish and Serve: Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve with steamed rice or noodles and your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.
