Ingredients

For the Base Layer:

1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix

1 large egg

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

For the Cream Cheese Layer:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

4 cups powdered sugar

½ cup chopped pecans

For the Topping:

½ cup chocolate chips

½ cup chopped pecans (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with non-stick spray or butter.

Prepare the Base Layer: In a large mixing bowl, combine the chocolate cake mix, 1 egg, and melted butter. Mix until well combined and the batter is smooth.

Spread in Pan: Pour the chocolate cake mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly across the bottom to form the base layer.

Make the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese using an electric mixer until creamy and smooth. Add in 2 eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until well blended. Gradually add in the powdered sugar while mixing until combined.

Add Pecans: Fold in the ½ cup of chopped pecans into the cream cheese mixture.

Assemble: Pour the cream cheese mixture over the chocolate cake base in the baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the edges are set, and the center is still slightly gooey.

Add Topping: About 5 minutes before the cake is done baking, sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top, allowing them to melt slightly. Remove from oven and let cool for a while.

Garnish: Sprinkle additional chopped pecans over the top for garnish.

Serve: Allow the cake to cool completely before cutting into squares. Serve dusted with powdered sugar if desired. Enjoy your indulgent treat!
