Ingredients

250g halloumi cheese

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup cornstarch

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp paprika

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 tsp dried oregano

1 cup olive oil (for frying)

Fresh lemon wedges (for serving)

Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Prep the Halloumi: Cut the halloumi cheese into thick sticks, approximately 1/2 inch wide and 3 inches long. Pat them dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.

Prepare the Coating: In a bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, salt, and dried oregano until combined.

Coat the Fries: Dredge each halloumi stick in the flour mixture, ensuring they are well coated. Shake off any excess flour and place them on a plate.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or frying pan, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. You’ll want enough oil for the fries to float slightly; about 1 inch in depth should suffice.

Fry the Halloumi: Once the oil is hot (you can test it by dropping in a pinch of the flour mixture – it should sizzle), carefully add a few halloumi sticks at a time, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy.

Drain and Serve: Using a slotted spoon, transfer the crispy halloumi fries onto a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil.

Garnish and Enjoy: Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the fries and garnish with chopped parsley. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce, such as tzatziki or a spicy chili sauce.
