1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup chocolate chips (semi-sweet or dark)

1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans recommended)

1 cup salted caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Sea salt flakes, for topping

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

    Cream the butter and sugars: In a large mixing bowl, use an electric mixer to cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

      Add eggs and vanilla: Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Pour in the vanilla extract and continue mixing until combined.

        Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

          Fold in chocolates and nuts: Gently fold in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

            Add the caramel: Carefully push small spoonfuls of the salted caramel sauce into the cookie dough, ensuring they are evenly dispersed. Be cautious not to overmix; you want to retain the caramel pockets.

              Scoop the cookies: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop heaping spoonfuls of cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving plenty of space (about 2 inches) between each cookie.

                Sprinkle with sea salt: Just before baking, sprinkle a few flakes of sea salt on top of each cookie.

                  Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft. Remove from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
