Ingredients

4 whole pita breads (whole wheat or regular)

1/4 cup olive oil

2 teaspoons garlic powder

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Optional: 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C).

Prepare the Pita Bread: Cut each pita bread into bite-sized pieces, about 1-inch squares. You can also tear them by hand for a more rustic look.

Season the Croutons: In a large mixing bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic powder, dried oregano, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. If using, add the grated Parmesan cheese as well. Stir well to create a flavorful oil mixture.

Mix with Pita Pieces: Add the pita bread pieces to the bowl and toss them in the seasoning blend until they are well-coated.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Spread the seasoned pita pieces in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Make sure they are spaced out to ensure even cooking.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the croutons are golden brown and crunchy. Make sure to stir them halfway through the baking time to ensure even crispness.

Cool and Store: Once baked, remove the croutons from the oven and let them cool completely. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
