Ingredients

1 lb ground beef (80/20 for best flavor)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon paprika

1/2 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup beef broth (or water)

8 taco shells (hard or soft)

Toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, grated cheese, salsa, sour cream, avocado slices, fresh cilantro

Instructions

Cook the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Break it apart with a spatula and cook until it’s browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.

Sauté Aromatics: Add the chopped onion to the beef and sauté for about 2-3 minutes until it becomes translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.

Season the Mixture: Sprinkle in the chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to coat the beef and onion mixture evenly with spices.

Add Liquid: Pour in the beef broth (or water) and stir to combine. Let the mixture come to a simmer, then reduce heat and allow to cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly.

Warm the Taco Shells: Meanwhile, heat the taco shells according to package instructions (traditionally 350°F for 5-8 minutes in the oven if using hard shells, or warm on a skillet for soft shells).

Assemble the Tacos: Fill each taco shell generously with the beef mixture, then top with your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, salsa, sour cream, avocado slices, and finish with a sprinkle of fresh cilantro.

Serve: Arrange the filled tacos on a platter and serve them hot, allowing everyone to customize their own tacos at the table.
