Ingredients

8 oz elbow macaroni

2 cups fresh or frozen peas

3 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

2 cups milk (whole or 2%)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper to taste

1/2 teaspoon paprika (optional for extra flavor)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente. Add the peas to the boiling pasta during the last 2 minutes of cooking. Drain and set aside.

Create the Cheese Sauce: In the same pot (or a large skillet if preferred), melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, whisk in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until bubbly. Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens slightly (about 3-5 minutes).

Flavor the Sauce: Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika (if using). Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Add Cheese: Remove the pot from the heat and slowly stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until completely melted and creamy.

Combine: Add the drained macaroni and peas back into the pot, stirring to coat the pasta evenly with the cheese sauce.

Serve: Divide the creamy macaroni and cheese into bowls and sprinkle a little grated Parmesan cheese on top for an extra gourmet touch.

Enjoy: Serve hot, and enjoy a delightful twist on a classic dish!
