Ingredients

500g (4 cups) strong white bread flour

7g (2 teaspoons) instant yeast

10g (1 teaspoon) sea salt

300ml (1 ¼ cups) warm water

50g (3.5 tablespoons) unsalted butter, melted

4 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped

6 cloves garlic, minced

50g (3.5 tablespoons) grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

A pinch of garlic powder (optional)

Extra melted butter for brushing

Sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, instant yeast, and sea salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the warm water along with the melted butter. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured work surface and knead for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook for this step.

First Rise: Place the kneaded dough into a lightly oiled bowl. Cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap and leave it in a warm place to rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.

Prepare Garlic Butter Mixture: While the dough is rising, mix together the minced garlic, chopped parsley, and grated Parmesan cheese (if using) in a small bowl. Add a pinch of garlic powder for extra flavor, if desired.

Shape the Rolls: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any trapped air. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces. Flatten each piece, place about a teaspoon of the garlic butter mixture in the center, and then fold the edges over to seal the filling inside. Rolling each piece into a ball is a great way to shape them.

Second Rise: Place the filled dough balls onto a greased or parchment-lined baking tray, spacing them slightly apart. Cover again with a damp cloth and let them rise for an additional 30 minutes.

Preheat the Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F).

Bake the Rolls: Once the rolls have puffed up, brush them generously with extra melted butter and sprinkle with sea salt. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and sound hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Cool and Serve: Allow the garlic bread rolls to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy them warm as a perfect side to soups, salads, or simply on their own!
