Before diving into the recipe, it's crucial to understand the significance of preheating your oven. Preheating ensures that your Brussels sprouts start roasting immediately when placed inside, resulting in a golden brown exterior and a tender interior. Ideally, you should set your oven to a temperature of 425°F (220°C). This high heat is essential for achieving that perfect caramelization, which amplifies the natural sweetness of the sprouts while allowing the garlic and Parmesan to infuse their flavors beautifully.

Ingredients

1 lb Brussels sprouts, trimmed and halved

4 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Lemon wedges, for serving

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Prepare the Brussels Sprouts: In a large bowl, combine the halved Brussels sprouts with olive oil, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Toss until the Brussels sprouts are well coated.

Roast the Brussels Sprouts: Spread the Brussels sprouts in a single layer on a large baking sheet. Roast in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown and tender. Toss them halfway through to ensure even roasting.

Add Parmesan Cheese: Remove the Brussels sprouts from the oven and sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese evenly over them. Return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and slightly golden.

Serve: Once done, remove from the oven, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve hot with lemon wedges on the side for an extra burst of freshness.
