Ingredients

For the Danish:

1 package (8 oz) King’s Hawaiian Original Sweet Rolls

1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

For the Cheesecake Filling:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 large egg

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

Zest of 1 lemon

For the Topping:

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1-2 tablespoons milk (add to desired consistency)

Extra chopped nuts or fresh fruit for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Sweet Rolls: In a large bowl, tear the King’s Hawaiian rolls into smaller pieces and place them in a greased 9-inch round cake pan or oven-safe skillet.

Make the Cinnamon Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Pour this mixture over the torn rolls and gently toss to combine. Sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts over the top if desired.

Prepare the Cheesecake Filling: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with an electric mixer until smooth. Add the granulated sugar, vanilla extract, egg, flour, and lemon zest. Mix until well combined and creamy.

Combine: Pour the cheesecake mixture evenly over the roll mixture, gently spreading it to ensure even coverage.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and the cheesecake filling is set.

Cool: Allow the Danish to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before dusting it with powdered sugar.

Prepare the Glaze: While the Danish is cooling, make the glaze by whisking together the powdered sugar with 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk until you reach a smooth, drizzling consistency.

Glaze and Serve: Drizzle the glaze over the warm Danish. Optionally, top with more chopped nuts or fresh fruit for garnish.

Slice and Enjoy: Slice the Danish into wedges and enjoy warm or at room temperature.
