Ingredients

1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain

1 cup jasmine rice, rinsed

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons gochujang (Korean chili paste)

2 tablespoons sesame oil

2 tablespoons honey

2 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece of ginger, minced

3 green onions, chopped (plus extra for garnish)

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon sesame seeds

1 cup kimchi, for topping

1 cup mixed vegetables (like bell peppers, zucchini, and carrots), sautéed

Optional: fried egg for topping

Instructions

Marinate the Steak: In a medium bowl, combine soy sauce, gochujang, sesame oil, honey, minced garlic, and ginger. Add the thinly sliced steak and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.

Cook the Rice: While the steak is marinating, cook the jasmine rice according to package instructions. Typically, this requires combining 1 cup of rice with 1.5 cups of water, bringing to a boil, then reducing to a simmer until the water is absorbed and rice is fluffy. Set aside.

Sauté the Vegetables: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add a splash of oil. Sauté your mixed vegetables until tender and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then remove from the skillet and set aside.

Cook the Steak: In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed and heat until very hot. Add the marinated steak in a single layer, cooking for about 2-3 minutes without moving, until a nice sear develops. Flip and cook an additional 1-2 minutes until cooked to your desired doneness. Remove from heat.

Assemble the Bowls: In each serving bowl, place a generous scoop of jasmine rice. Top with sautéed vegetables, Korean BBQ steak, and kimchi. Optionally, add a fried egg on top for extra richness and sprinkle with sesame seeds and extra chopped green onions.

Serve Warm: Enjoy your flavorful Korean BBQ steak rice bowls while they’re still warm!
