Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef

1/2 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup finely chopped fresh parsley

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup marinara sauce

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1 French baguette or Italian bread

3 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon dried oregano

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C).

Make the Meatballs: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, parsley, minced garlic, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until all ingredients are just combined. Avoid overmixing to ensure tender meatballs.

Form the Meatballs: Roll the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter. You should get approximately 20 meatballs.

Cook the Meatballs: In a large skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium heat. Add the meatballs in batches and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until they are browned and cooked through. Transfer cooked meatballs to a paper-towel-lined plate.

Prepare the Bread: While the meatballs are cooling, slice the baguette in half lengthwise. Place the halves on a baking sheet.

Make Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix softened butter, garlic powder, and dried oregano. Spread this garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of the bread.

Bake the Bread: Bake the garlic bread halves in the oven for about 8-10 minutes or until golden brown and toasted.

Assemble the Melts: Remove the bread from the oven and lower the temperature to 375°F (190°C). On each toasted half, spread a generous layer of marinara sauce, place the meatballs on top, and sprinkle with shredded mozzarella cheese.

Melt the Cheese: Return the assembled bread to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Slice and Serve: Once the cheese is melted, remove the melts from the oven, let cool for a couple of minutes, then slice into smaller pieces. Serve warm with extra marinara sauce for dipping.
