4 large hoagie or baguette rolls

1 cup ricotta cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg (lightly beaten)

2 cups marinara sauce (divided)

1/2 pound ground beef or Italian sausage (cooked and drained)

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

2 cloves garlic (minced)

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

3 tablespoons fresh parsley (chopped for garnish)

Salt and pepper to taste

4 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon dried parsley (for seasoning the garlic butter)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

    Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, mix the softened butter, garlic powder, dried parsley, and a pinch of salt. Blend until smooth and set aside.

      Prepare the Breads: Slice each hoagie or baguette roll in half lengthwise. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides of each roll. Place the rolls cut-side up on a baking sheet.

        Mix the Cheese Filling: In a separate bowl, combine ricotta cheese, half of the mozzarella, Parmesan, beaten egg, cooked ground beef or sausage, dried oregano, dried basil, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well to form the filling.

          Assemble the Boats: Spoon the cheese and meat filling evenly into each garlic bread roll. Pour marinara sauce over the filled boats; approximately 2 tablespoons of sauce per roll. Top with the remaining mozzarella cheese.

            Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and the bread is toasted.
