1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)

1 tsp Italian seasoning

1 tsp garlic powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

For the Toppings:

6 slices of pepperoni

1 cup sliced mushrooms (button or cremini)

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

1/2 cup marinara sauce

4 burger buns (preferably sturdy, like brioche)

Olive oil, for cooking

Fresh basil leaves, for garnishing

For Additional Seasoning:

1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

Prepare the Burger Patties: In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined; don’t overwork the meat. Form into four large patties, making a slight indentation in the center to prevent puffing during cooking.

    Cook the Mushrooms: In a skillet over medium heat, add a drizzle of olive oil. Once hot, add the sliced mushrooms and sauté until browned and softened, about 5-7 minutes. Season with a pinch of salt and set aside.

      Grill the Burger Patties: Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties, add 1 slice of cheese on top of each patty, and layer with 2-3 slices of pepperoni. Allow the cheese to melt as they cook another 4-5 minutes for medium doneness.
