Ingredients

3 ripe bananas, mashed

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

1/4 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

Sea salt flakes, for topping

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed bananas with the melted butter. Mix until well combined. Add the brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.

Sift Together Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the baking soda, flour, and salt.

Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture. Stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix. If using, fold in the chopped walnuts.

Add Caramel: Gently swirl 3 tablespoons of caramel sauce into the batter. Avoid mixing too vigorously; you want ribbons of caramel.

Pour Batter into Pan: Transfer the batter to your prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top of the batter and take a knife or skewer to swirl for a marbled effect.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cool and Cut: Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cool, cut into bars.

Serve: Before serving, sprinkle sea salt flakes over the top for that perfect salted caramel touch. Enjoy your delicious Salted Caramel Banana Bread Bars with coffee or as a sweet treat!
