Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for heat)

1/3 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)

1/4 cup milk

1 large egg

1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried)

1 tablespoon honey (optional)

Instructions

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper.

Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the cold butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese and fresh rosemary, ensuring it's evenly distributed.

In a separate bowl, combine the pumpkin puree, milk, egg, and honey (if using), whisking until well mixed.

Pour the wet mixture into the flour mixture and stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix. The dough should be slightly sticky.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it just a few times until it comes together.

Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch thick. Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, cut the circle into 8 wedges.

Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the scones to cool slightly on a wire rack before serving. Enjoy them warm, perhaps with a pat of butter or a drizzle of honey for a touch of sweetness!
