Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

½ cup cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

½ teaspoon salt

1 cup pecans, chopped

1 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

Cream the Butters and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until creamy and smooth.

Add Eggs and Vanilla: Mix in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, combining until well incorporated.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until the batter is smooth and well combined.

Add Pecans: Gently fold in the chopped pecans until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Spread in the Pan: Pour half of the chocolate batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly across the bottom.

Layer with Caramel: Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the chocolate batter. Use a spatula to gently spread it, but don’t mix it into the batter.

Top with Remaining Batter: Spoon the remaining chocolate batter over the caramel layer, trying to cover it evenly without mixing.

Add Chocolate Chips and Caramel: Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top of the remaining batter and drizzle the rest of the caramel sauce on top.

Finish with Sea Salt: Sprinkle a pinch of sea salt over the entire top for an extra touch of flavor.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs (not too wet).

Cool and Slice: Allow the bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes. Once cooled, lift them out of the pan using the parchment paper (if used) and cut into squares or bars.

Serve and Enjoy: Serve these scrumptious turtle bars warm or at room temperature, and watch them disappear!
