Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1 cup brown sugar, packed

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup black licorice, cut into thin strips (for spider legs)

Optional: Candy eyes for decoration

Instructions

Preheat Your Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Shape the Cookies: Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.

Bake the Cookies: Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may appear slightly soft, which is fine as they will set while cooling.

Create Spider Shapes: Once out of the oven and slightly cooled, use a small circle of cookie or a chocolate candy for the body of the spider in the center of each cookie. While the cookies are still warm, arrange 8 pieces of black licorice strips on each cookie to resemble spider legs.

Add Eyes: If desired, press candy eyes onto the spider bodies. Let the cookies cool completely on the baking sheet.

Final Touch: Once cool, you can drizzle melted chocolate over the cookies for extra spookiness.

Serve and Enjoy: Present these creepy but delightful spider cookies at your Halloween party and watch them vanish in no time!
