Ingredients

1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced

1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, torn or chopped

1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (about 4-6 lemons)

3/4 cup granulated sugar (adjust to taste)

4 cups cold water

Ice cubes

Lemon slices and basil sprigs for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Strawberry Basil Syrup: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the sliced strawberries, torn basil leaves, and sugar. Muddle the strawberries slightly with a wooden spoon to release their juices. Allow the mixture to cook for about 5-7 minutes, until the strawberries have softened and the sugar has dissolved. Remove from heat and let it steep for another 10 minutes.

Strain the Syrup: Once the mixture has cooled slightly, strain it through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl or pitcher to separate the solids from the liquid. Use the back of a spoon to press out as much liquid as possible. Discard the solids.

Mix the Lemonade: In a large pitcher, combine the freshly squeezed lemon juice with the strained strawberry basil syrup. Add the cold water to the pitcher and stir well until everything is blended. Taste and adjust the sweetness by adding more sugar if desired.

Chill the Drink: Place the pitcher in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to chill. This also allows the flavors to meld beautifully.

Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes, pour the chilled strawberry basil lemonade over the ice, and garnish with lemon slices and fresh basil sprigs. Enjoy immediately!
