Ingredients

1 box of vanilla cake mix (plus ingredients as called for on the box)

1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and diced

1 cup strawberry Jell-O powder

1 cup boiling water

1 cup cold water

1 tub (8 oz) whipped topping, thawed

1 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Fresh strawberries, for garnish

Instructions

Bake Cake: Preheat oven as directed on the cake mix box. Prepare the vanilla cake mix according to package instructions, then pour the batter into a greased 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake as directed and let cool for about 15-20 minutes.

Prepare Jell-O: In a medium bowl, dissolve the strawberry Jell-O powder in 1 cup of boiling water. Stir until completely dissolved. Then, add 1 cup of cold water and mix well. Set aside.

Poke Holes: Once the cake has cooled slightly, use a large fork or skewer to poke holes all over the top of the cake, about 1 inch apart. Make sure to get deep enough so that the Jell-O can seep through.

Add Jell-O: Pour the prepared strawberry Jell-O evenly over the cake, ensuring it fills the holes and soaks into the cake. Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours, or until the Jell-O is set.

Whip Cream: In a large mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream with an electric mixer on medium speed until soft peaks form. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to whip until you achieve stiff peaks.

Frost the Cake: Once the Jell-O is set, take the cake out of the refrigerator and spread the whipped cream evenly over the top of the cake.

Garnish: Decorate the top with the diced fresh strawberries and additional whole strawberries if desired.

Serve and Enjoy: Slice and serve cold. This cake is best enjoyed the same day but can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
