Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp baking powder

1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Cookie Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

3/4 cup chocolate chunks or chips

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a saucepan over low heat, melt 1/2 cup of butter. Remove from heat and stir in the granulated sugar until well combined.

        - Add the eggs one at a time, whisking until fully incorporated. Stir in the vanilla extract.

          - Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until just combined; do not overmix.

            - Fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.

              Make the Cookie Layer:

                - In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

                  - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until smooth.

                    - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients until well combined. Fold in the chocolate chunks or chips.

                      Assemble the Browkies:

                        - Spoon the cookie dough over the brownie layer. Use a spatula to spread it into an even layer. You can also drop dollops of the cookie dough over the brownie layer and gently swirl them together for a marbled effect.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs (not wet batter).

Cool and Cut: Allow the browkies to cool in the pan on a wire rack. Once fully cooled, lift them out using the parchment overhang and cut into squares.

Serve: Enjoy your fudgy chewy browkies warm or at room temperature. They pair wonderfully with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an extra treat!
