Ingredients

1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 cup water

1/3 cup vegetable oil

1 tbsp white vinegar

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ cup chocolate chips (optional)

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.

Add Wet Ingredients: Create three wells in your dry ingredients and pour the vegetable oil into one well, the vinegar into another, and the vanilla extract into the last. Then, pour the water over all the ingredients.

Combine: Using a whisk or a spatula, mix everything together until just combined. It’s okay if the batter is a little lumpy; do not overmix!

Fold in Chocolate Chips: If you’re using chocolate chips, fold them into the batter gently until evenly distributed.

Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Cool: Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serve: Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar if desired. Slice and enjoy this delightful Wacky Chocolate Cake with friends and family!
