Ingredients

For the Apple Filling:

6 medium-sized Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

For the Crumble Topping:

1 cup rolled oats

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

To Serve:

Vanilla ice cream or whipped cream

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the apple filling: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced Granny Smith apples, granulated sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and flour. Toss until evenly coated.

Assemble the filling: Pour the apple mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly.

Make the crumble topping: In a separate bowl, mix the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and chopped nuts (if using). Add the cubed cold butter to the mixture. Using your fingers or a pastry cutter, mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Top the apples: Evenly sprinkle the crumble topping over the prepared apple filling in the baking dish.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the apples are bubbly and the topping is golden brown.

Cool slightly: Once baked, remove the dish from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes.

Serve: Spoon the warm apple crumble onto individual plates and serve with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream on top.
